What type of pots and pans to buy?
August 16th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I am moving into a condo next month and cannot decide on what pots and pans to buy. There’s so many different kinds! I have people say that stainless steel is the best and some say non-stick/teflon. I just don’t know! I want a set that will last me a long time but I’m not worried about 10 years or anything, lol. But I don’t want 1 year’s worth of use out of them. What do you guys suggest? Aluminum, stainless steel, hard-anodized, etc… also brand, please.
These pots will be for a young couple. We aren’t poor but not rich either XD so I can’t afford like a $400 pot set

I would suggest copper bottom(they heat up the fastest) and non stick pans. They are really easy to clean and cook in!I dunno know any brands but Sears have people who specialize in that stuff.

I love the Tramontina stainless pots and pans. They are 18/10 stainless with heavy bottoms. They will last a lifetime. I will admit that it takes a little getting used to when using stainless, but worth it. Check their website for types, styles and sets.

I got an All-Clad set finally after trying t-Fal, Anodized Calphalon, and Cuisinart. Cuisinart stainless is a good brand don’t get me wrong but the set I got had all warped lids and I had gotten it because I didn’t want to shell out the money for the All-Clad. I took the warped lids as a sign that I should have gotten what I wanted in the first place and returned it and got the All-Clad and I love it.
The T-Fal non-stick wound up getting scratched and scratched non-stick cookware is not something you want to fool around with as the coating is a carcinogen if ingested. The Anodized cookware was just awful…food stuck to it, it didn’t clean up well, etc.
What I did was I got the regular stainless All-Clad set and then got one non-stick pan for things like crepes. I didn’t like the All-Clad Wok because it didn’t come with a lid, so I got the Cuisinart one (they look enough alike). (Also the All-Clad has a lifetime guarantee).

AllClad is wicked expensive, but worth it. If you can afford it, do it. Go stainless, but turn your heat down! They stick and burn when cooking under high heat. I agree with above, you only need one or two nonstick……and I wouldn’t bother getting AllClad. Calphalon has a special of 2 skillets for……not too much money. They are fine, I’ve had mine a year or two and they cook well and don’t stick……if you aren’t washing with soap or scrubbing. Secret to nonstick is to keep the soap off as much as possible and to season them often. I don’t like nonstick pots……sometimes stuff gets burned into them and it’s hard or impossible to see it let alone clean it…….I’m thinking sugar from some candy making day.
I still have some RevereWare copper bottom pans, but the bottoms are too thin….you want a heavy weighted bottom to prevent warping.
